Where is Montmoreau?

The property is in the delightful village of Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard (just 30km south of the medieval city of Angouleme)..

The house offers approximately 210 square metres of living area and is on almost 5,300 square metres of land.

An extract from the advertising text for this property...

"Formerly three separate dwellings this large house is just a short walk from the centre of Montmoreau with its bars restaurants & shops.Work has been started - double glazing, some plumbing, shower room, partitoin walls - however a large part of the project is to be finished.The upper floor currently consists of a large kitchen/dining/lounge area, 3 double bedrooms - one of which has a ensuite shower room - and access to the garden of over an acre. On the lower floor there is potential for a separate 2 or 3 room apartment with private access. Outside the garden is in need of some TLC!! But once under control there would be lovely countryside views from the rear terrace."

the Project

The challenge with this house was to bring out the potential in its size, blend the older character features with some modern style elements, and to reveal the panoramic view from the garden.

The structure would remain essentially the same, but with a number of layout and design changes;

  • the kitchen moved to the other end of the living space
  • the two small bedrooms combined into one larger one (this necessitated opening a new passageway down the garden side of the first floor
  • the ensuite moved to provide more space in the bedroom and the ensuite itself
  • the downstairs bedrooms given direct access from a new corridor along the back wall
  • "pierre apparent" stonework and white plaster would feature throughout
  • the kitchen and three bathrooms created with a feeling of luxurious simplicity
